WIA – Gujarati School
WIA Gujarati School operates every Sunday except school holidays at Bharat Bhavan, 48 Kemp St, Kilbirnie. The operating hours are from 9.00am to 12.30pm.
Structure
Gujarati school classes are run by a team of teachers who take Mandir session, structured classes and coordinate activities for various festivals.
A team of committee members and volunteers support the teachers in the smooth running of Gujarati school.
The Aim of Gujarati school is:
- To provide an environment where children feel they are part of the wider community while developing an understanding of Gujarati language, culture and customs.
- To provide an environment where children can foster friendship with other children and have an opportunity to meet other children from the community.
- To foster a sense of pride and high self esteem in being a Gujarati.
- To allow students to develop verbal communication skills in order to feel at ease within a Gujarati speaking environment.
- To teach students to read and write Gujarati.
- To make the language interesting.
Gujarati school guidelines
- Parents must be members of Wellington Indian Association (Inc.)
- For health and safety reasons the teachers and committee request that all children must be dropped off to the Mandir.
- Parents are encouraged to stay for Mandir sessions.
- Inform teachers of any allergies or health issues upon enrolment
Annual Cost - $100.00 per child per year
Parents and children are welcome to 3 free visits before enrolling in Gujarati school.
